Oedipus Complex
1. in psychoanalytic theory, a son’s unconscious sexual love for his mother and his subsequent hostility and jealousy toward his father. 2. a similar attraction of a daughter to her father and rivalry with her mother; more specifically called the ELECTRA COMPLEX. (From the Greek myth of Oedipus, who unwittingly killed his father and married his mother.)
